WORLD MAP old map of the world with routes of explorers 1858 original antique map about voyages of discovery

This is an original antique French world map in Mercator projection, depicting the great explorers. The name of the explorer and the year of their discovery are noted on the locations they discovered. Note: You may need a magnifying glass to read the map, as the text is very small. The map is hand-colored. It has some damage and is therefore discounted.

Dimensions: 43 x 53 cm

Condition: The paper has some age spots, primarily in the margins. There is a fairly large 12 cm tear along one of the vertical folds (see last photo). The tear has been repaired on the back with archival tape. The map was originally issued with one horizontal and three vertical folds so it could fit into the atlas. It was folded incorrectly in the past and now has six vertical fold lines. It remains an attractive, original antique world map in a nice size.
